I plugged the phone cable into the LAN socket but it can't find the modem and I get the error 797 message.
What can I try?

Hi Annette
Does your laptop have modem?
Is there another port that looks like the LAN one but a bit smaller?
That will be the modem port.
Yes it does have a modem!
Do I need an adapter to plug the phone cable into the modem jack/FM antenna port.
We're just going to add a scan of the operaters manual for you to peruse.
Hi Marcel.
I've just put the picture on for you to have a look at.
On one side of the machine there is the 'LAN Jack' that the phone cable fits into. On the other there is a round plug hole called the 'Modem Jack or FM Antenna Jack'.
Just wondering if we need an adapter to plug the phone into the round hole.
I think the problem is something else tho' as the puter doesn't seem to be detecting the modem for a start.
A bit of a puzzle.
Will have to investigate.
Phone plug is different from LAN plug
never read about converter for fm antenna jack port.
What is the model?
Just read a review where they complained that there was no modem and no vga connector on a toshiba new laptop model.
That sounds good!
Satellite P300 05Y.
Googling now.
I think I'm in the poo!
Didn't even think to ask if it had a modem ... just assumed all puters had one these days!!
Oops!
Just looked up the specs and sorry to say no modem
