Help needed for the purchase of my new laptop.
Can I run Office 2000 on Vista Premium or do I need to buy Office 2007 as suggested by the sales person?
Do I need to buy anti virus (Nortons, NOD32) and fire walls or can I get good enough free ones off the web?

If you want to run office 2000 that is fine, there should be enough free antivirus programs available to work for you.
If they have special deals check the prices first but sometimes it is the best time to buy especially microsoft office.
Thanks Marcel.
I was thinking of buying a Toshiba Satellite A350 05CD from Harvey Norman @ $1922 (reduced $500) ... in Harvey Norman's catalogue. I was told by a slaesperson that I couldn't run Office 2000 on it.
Found this on a blog when I asked google the question; Almost ALL Microsoft software run on Vista platform (Business Strategy). And a machine running vista can surely run Office 2000 like a charm. Go ahead ask ur customer to install office 2000. But i must say, office 2000 is regarded as the stone-age office suite, its better to upgrade to 2003 or 2007 or there is always OpenOffice.org its free and way better than office 2000.
download it from here

Still spending up big Annette
Dick Smith got it for 1497 in oz
OpenOffice is the way to go. If you're on dialup it takes ages and I have it on DVDs.
Comodo and Online Armour are excellent free firewalls, and have security suites too.
Avast! AVG and Antivir are good free antivirus.
If you want to buy get NOD32 and ask Marcel about it
For good freeware, sorted, go to: www.filehippo.com/
