HOW TO USE WIRELESS HOTSPOTS - Does anyone out there know?
Its interesting to learn that at ChCh Airport you can take advantage of their wireless (broadband) hotspot for 15 minutes to check for e-mails or surf the net and this is totally free, but after that time you have to pay. The main public libraries also have this facility, and we are well aware that some cafes and most of the better hotels offer free (or not free) wi fi access. But how do newbies take advantage of this service? What happens next after your laptop (or I-pod Touch; or wi fi cell phone) locates a network and tells you its available? How do you adjust your laptop security settings to access the hotspot without putting all your private information at risk? How do you physicallly pay for access if and when that is demanded? Are there paying options like eftpos, paypal, telephone cards, or can only credit cards be used? Hope someone contributes to this thread with a step by step explanation of how to do this as I'd quite like to try it myself!

This is outside my knowledge but inside my curiosity area, so I googled: Secure surfing on public wifi. The sites are considered to be safe.
